The PA Turnpike Commission is completing a system wide tree removal and pruning operation along its Right-of-way. Currently they are working on the trees within the Milepost 312-319 corridor, which includes Charlestown Township. The PTC is doing this in order to open up the sunlight to the roadway which will help with the de-icing materials during the winter. In addition they are also removing unhealthy trees and trees that have the potential of falling onto the roadway. All trees to be removed or pruned will be only within the Turnpike Right-of-way. No trees will be removed outside of their Right-of-way.
