In 2003, Catherine Jenkins, a long-time resident and founding member of the Civic Association passed away at the age of 96. She owned a home on 16 wooded acres on Valley Hill Road.
The Township Supervisors were in agreement that the property would be ideal for a “pocket park”, a small park that would be used primarily by nearby residents in an area that had no similar amenity.
The value of the property, however, was more than the Township would typically spend to acquire. This led the Supervisors to the idea of creating a small subdivision of four lots on 8 acres of the property, and retaining the other 8 acres for the park. Selling the four lots would go far in covering the original $850,000 cost of the acquisition.
Due to the downturn in the economy, this project is still waiting to be finalized. At the opportune time, the four lots will be auctioned to a developer, who will also construct the park as part of the contract.
